The Position

The Governing Board of the Santa Maria-Bonita School District is seeking a Superintendent who will continue our tradition of providing a high quality education for our students. The person selected for this position will be expected to embrace, value and support the culture of the District and our community, and will be required by the Board to value every student in the District. Specific selection criteria are:

  • Five years of administrative experience as a site principal and/or district office administrator
  • Experience in a multi-cultural district
  • Experience in facilities construction, budget management, and negotiations is preferred
  • Experience managing educational innovations and trends is preferred

 

The salary for this position is competitive and negotiable.

The Community

Santa Maria is a city on the California Central Coast in northern Santa Barbara County. Its estimated population (2013) was 102,216, making it the most populous city in the County. The estimated population of the metropolitan area is 171,277, which includes Santa Maria, the city of Guadalupe and the unincorporated township of Orcutt. The city is notable for its world famous Santa Maria –style barbecue and has a strong agriculture-based economy.

The District

Santa Maria-Bonita School District is a growing K-8 district serving approximately 16,000 students. 63% of the District’s students are ELL. A large percentage of students are socio-economically disadvantaged.

The District’s mission “is to teach, to learn and to facilitate learning in a cooperative, safe environment.” The District has twenty schools, including 15 elementary schools and 4 junior highs, with a new elementary school opening in August. The District also just passed a bond measure and will be moving forward with further facilities improvements and expansions. The district has a modified traditional calendar and offers a quality, comprehensive education. The logo on the district’s web-site states “We are here to prepare children to be successful citizens.”
