John H. Almond

Since retiring from public education in June, 2006, and prior to joining Dave Long and Associates, Mr. Almond has served as the Director of District Support Services for Total School Solutions, a state-wide consulting firm and partner with the Association of California School Administrators. In this capacity, he has served as an advisor to school boards on a variety of issues as well as an administrative coach for approximately forty new administrators.

Mr. Almond’s career in education has spanned over four decades, having served as a teacher, a counselor, a director of student activities and athletics, an assistant principal at both the middle school and high school levels, a high school principal, and a superintendent for the last 12 years of his career. This wide background of experiences has enabled him to develop strong organizational and leadership skills which are essential to effectively serve as an advisor to school districts.

In addition, Mr. Almond has conducted workshops at the annual Superintendents’ Symposium every year since 2004. Many of his workshops have centered on the qualities and characteristics necessary to serve as an effective leader in education as well as the hard realities of dealing with difficult economic times. Mr. Almond has also been a speaker at numerous regional workshops throughout the state of California.

Throughout his career in education, Mr. Almond has held a number of distinguished regional and state-wide positions. He represented the northernmost counties of California on the State Superintendents’ Committee for a number of years and provided leadership on county-wide strategic planning and budgetary task forces. He was also named California Superintendent of the Year for Region One in 2005.
